Thirty years in Fortune 500 boardrooms taught me one thing: leadership doesn't fail from the outside. It fails from within.

From that starting point I built a 30-year career in corporate America. Technician to Vice President. Vice President to Senior Vice President. Senior Vice President to President-level roles inside Fortune 500 companies including AT&T and Time Warner. As a Black man navigating those environments in the 1980s and 1990s, the path was rarely without resistance. The internal disciplines I now call The Five Immutable Laws of Leadership were working in my life long before they had names.
At the height of that career I heard something I could not ignore — a pull toward work that mattered more than achievement. That became my second backseat moment. I left the corporate world, earned a doctoral degree at Pepperdine University, and built True Life Enterprises around a single conviction: personal leadership must precede professional leadership.
That conviction produced two frameworks that sit at the center of everything I do.
The Five Immutable Laws of Leadership address the internal foundation — how you think under pressure, how your identity shows up in your decisions, and whether the person you believe yourself to be matches the leader your people actually experience.
The PREP-C Model — developed through my doctoral research and tested across decades of executive practice — addresses the external expression of leadership: Presence, Relationships, Education, Politics, and Contribution. The disciplines that determine whether internal strength translates into organizational influence and career advancement.
Personal leadership first. Professional leadership follows. That sequence is not a preference — it is how durable leadership actually works.
Today I work with senior leaders through executive coaching, leadership development programs, and keynote speaking. The leaders I work with are not failing. They are performing at a high level and sensing that the most important conversation about their leadership has not yet happened.
That conversation starts here.

I did not come to this work through a straight line.
I grew up in poverty, served in the Navy, and after being discharged I found myself homeless living in the backseat of a car. After a period of time, I had what I call my first backseat moment. It was the simple awareness that my choices had brought me to that place. And that different choices could take me somewhere different. This recognition that what happens inside a person determines what happens around them, became the seed of everything I teach today.
